Richard improvises comedy - he is not the pianist - in The Comedy Store Players. He is an actor and writer for stage, radio and TV and he performs as a stand-up comic. His voice can be heard on adverts and documentaries and as a BBC radio newsreader in Mr Bates vs The Post Office.
Richard played Gilmanuk in the Dr Who audio drama Theatre of War for Big Finish productions. He has a PhD in Physics and he presented the popular science series Beat That Einstein on Channel 4. He has an Erdos-Bacon-Sabbath number of 9. For BBC Radio 4 Richard was a panelist on The Infinite Monkey Cage and Just a Minute, and he contributed to The Skewer in 2023 and Sound Heap in 2024. He's written plays, animations and films. He doesn't do music work.
Richard appeared on The Weakest Link Doctors' Special (BBC1) and You Bet (ITV) and he played Bernie Bermuda in the live BBC2 sitcom Hello Mum. Heimprovised stories with Sylvester McCoy on Jackanory (BBC1) and he was the narrator for the series Alex Polizzi - My Hotel Nightmare on Channel 5. 
Richard formed a double-act with Tony Slattery in 1981 and he was the male member of cabaret group The Millies.  For five years he performed in sketch shows from Mexico to the Occupied Palestinian Territories with the English Teaching Theatre. Richard also imorovises in the Stephen Frost Impro Allstars and he was one of Paul Merton's Impro Chums
